Shiprock Fleet Management as currently known today derived from being named "Motor Pool" in 1962, thereafter, renamed to "Transportation" in 1985 and in 1990 the Navajo Nation under the Division of General Services was changed and renamed to "Shiprock Fleet Management".
Location
Shiprock Fleet Management is located on East Hwy 64 in Shiprock, New Mexico. The facility is a gray metal shop building with a five bay garage and a bulk fueling station within a 1.9 acre fenced in compound.
Services

Shiprock Fleet Management maintains and provides services to Navajo Nation Department/Program(s) vehicles; including emergency vehicles (Police, EMS and Fire & Rescue), Navajo Headstart school buses, some heavy equipment, and other outside private entities through vehicle maintenance contract agreement.

Automotive Preventive Maintenance in-service training and Wright Express Orientation provided to Navajo Nation Departments/Programs.

Technicians diagnose/repair unscheduled repair orders; automotive glass, tire repairs and/or replacement.

Vehicle recovery, towing and assist in roadside services for all Navajo Nation vehicles 24/7.

Navajo Nation vehicle rentals and courtesy loaners are available. Contact Shop office for daily rentals and mileage rates.

Unleaded and Diesel fueling with RUSCO cards provided 24/7.

Fueling Station
Fueling station uses a Fuel-Hawk 1000 fuel reporting system which uses dual cards called RUSCO cards, First card for the vehicle which has the vehicle information and a second card for the driver which has the employee information. RUSCO cards are issued by Fleet Management Department. Department or Driver is responsible to pay a fee for replacement fuel card.

Wright Express Fuel Card

The Wright Express credit card is used when on travel and away from Fleet fuel stations. The WEX credit card is issued to all Navajo Nation vehicles which can only be used by Navajo Nation employees with PIN numbers. In order for an employee to receive a PIN number, each employee is required to attend a Wright Express Orientation. Department or Driver is responsible to pay a fee for replacement fuel credit card.

Vehicle Accident/Damage

When involved in an accident, Shiprock Fleet Management has some helpful hints that make things easier in an event of an accident

  • Take a deep breath. Check to make sure everyone is all right. Call 911 or your local Law Enforcement.
  • Never leave the scene until all matters are settled.
  • Only move your vehicle if its position puts you or others in danger, or you're instructed by a police officer to do so.
  • Give only necessary and requested information to police and other parties involved in the accident.
  • Call your department manager/supervisor and Fleet Management Department immediately.
  • Submit all necessary reports to Fleet Management Department within three working days.
    1. Police Report or Police Report Number.
    2. Driver's Memorandum of accident.
    3. Navajo Nation Vehicle Accident report form.
